American Honors at Ivy Tech is now offering a new, specialized pre-nursing pathway for freshmen students planning to transfer for their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Designed for high-achieving students, this pathway provides enhanced opportunities for professional growth and the chance to distinguish yourself in the competitive 4-year transfer process. With an Honors Diploma and an ASN, you’ll be uniquely prepared to succeed at a 4-year college or university and earn your BSN.

Here are some of the key features of the American Honors program at Ivy Tech Community College:

  • Honors Advisors. From the time you enroll, your honors advisor will work with you every step of the way – from course selection to preparing for the transfer process and identifying scholarship opportunities. Already – with the help of American Honors Advisors – program graduates have received $2.2 million in scholarship and grant aid at a number of top-ranked institutions.
  • Communication and Leadership Skills. Honors courses taken through the American Honors program emphasize critical thinking, communication and leadership skills – proficiencies that are highly valued by competitive four-year schools for pre-nursing programs.
  • A Culture of Success. In American Honors at Ivy Tech, you’ll be supported and encouraged by dedicated honors faculty and peers who are as highly motivated as you are.

What to expect? During your first year in American Honors at Ivy Tech, you will be enrolled in a pre-nursing curriculum that offers a combination of honors and non-honors general studies courses. At the conclusion of your first year, you will then apply for the ASN program.

The ASN program is highly competitive and decisions are made based on your performance in Ivy Tech courses, specific grades in English 111, Psych 101, Anatomy and Physiology 101 and 102 and Math 136, as well as a standardized test of general skills (the TEAS). For those accepted into the ASN program, nursing-specific courses will be taken, including NURS courses and other natural science courses.

It is important to note that admission to American Honors does NOT guarantee admission to the pre-nursing program. If you have credits to bring in, those credits may replace current Honors offerings, however you may be required to take “extra” Honors courses to achieve your Honors diploma.
