Biography: Dr. Matthew Badtke completed a Bachelor of Science degree from Carroll University in Waukesha, WI, with a double major in Biology and Biochemistry. Following undergraduate studies, Dr. Badtke entered a doctoral program in the Saint Louis University School of Medicine. He completed his Ph.D. in microbiology in 2008, with a thesis focused on understanding the molecular biology of Hepatitis B virus. Following postdoctoral training in bacteriology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Dr. Badtke switched his focus from research to teaching. He begin working as an adjunct assistant professor at Albion College in Albion, MI, teaching biology courses. Dr. Badtke then accepted a teaching position at Jackson College, and was granted tenure and the rank of Professor in 2014. At Jackson College Dr. Badtke teaches many different science courses, including general biology, general chemistry, microbiology, environmental science and public health. In addition to teaching, Dr. Badtke is very interested in increasing connections between higher education and K-12 schools in Michigan. In his rare free time, he enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and daughter.
